P-47 Ace Fred Christensen of the 56th Fighter Group is preparing for an escort mission in the chilly early morning. The escort fighters left later than the bombers because of their faster speed and they caught up to them as they were approaching their targets. You can see the contrails of the fighters in the cold air, forming up.
