P-47 Pilot Fred Christensen of the 56th Fighter Group is preparing for an escort mission in the chilly early morning. The escort fighters left later than the bombers because of their faster speed and they caught up to them as they were approaching their targets. You can see the contrails of the fighters in the cold air, forming up. IOO limited edition S&N number giclees are available in either canvas or heavy paper, with COA. |
"Lace" was a cartoon character created for the enlisted men by Milton Caniff in the 40's. It was later used as nose art on the famous B-17 bomber "A Bit O'Lace." The painting depicts a Me-109 of the Luftwaffe's "Home Defense Force" attacking a formation of B-17's including "A Bit O'Lace."
